When Allison Neuwirth walks into a studio, you know it’s going to be a good day. She’s one of those clients who shows up dialed in: physique on point, wardrobe ready, and energy high. For this Los Angeles fitness and fashion photoshoot, the goal was clear: to document her evolving journey toward FMG in a way that felt bold, fun, and slightly edgy.
We may be known as South Florida photographers, but when a client like Allison calls from LA, you don’t hesitate, you book the ticket, pack the Sony A1, and get to work.

From South Florida Photographer to DTLA Studio Day
Most people see the final hero shots and think it was easy. What they don’t see is us circling downtown LA trying to tame parking near FD Studios. Classic DTLA: one-way streets, tight spots, and that delicate dance between unloading gear and avoiding a ticket.
Once we finally made it into FD Studios, the stress disappeared the second the lights turned on, and the camera came out. This is where the fun starts.
As a South Florida fitness photographer, I’m used to humidity, palm trees, and outdoor gyms. Los Angeles brought a different flavor, urban, polished, and a bit gritty in all the right ways. It was the perfect match for a fitness & fashion concept built around an athlete on a serious mission… who also loves to laugh between sets.
A Los Angeles Fitness & Fashion Photoshoot with Allison
This shoot was all about blending two worlds:
Fitness – strong lines, defined muscles, movement, discipline.
Fashion – wardrobe, attitude, styling, and a bit of drama.
For Allison’s FMG journey, it wasn’t enough to show her physique alone. We wanted to tell the story of who she is: hardworking, playful, driven, and stylish. That’s where the mix of fitness and fashion photography really shines.
We structured the day into “chapters,” so she’d walk away with a complete content library:
Gym-inspired looks with a focus on strength and form
Fashion-forward outfits with attitude and movement
Portrait-style moments that felt more intimate and personal
The result? A set of images that works for her FMG needs, social media, branding, and future collaborations.
If you’re a model or athlete looking to level up your portfolio, this hybrid approach is powerful—think model portfolio photographer meets athlete branding photos in one session.

Gear, Glass, and That Cinematic Look
We shot the entire session on the Sony A1 because when you’ve got an athlete like Allison flying through dynamic poses, you need precise autofocus and resolution that doesn’t falter.
Main lenses in rotation:
24–70mm – our workhorse. Perfect for wide environmental frames and closer fashion moments without losing flexibility.
70–200mm GM – the compression king. This one came out whenever we wanted those flattering lines, tight portraits, and a more editorial, cinematic feel.
Lighting-wise, we stayed true to our signature bold, punchy style. Think strong shape, defined shadows, and highlights that carve out her physique without harshness. A mix of strobes and available light gave us:
Directional light for sculpting muscle definition
Softer setups for beauty and fashion-focused looks
Backlit moments for drama and movement
The goal was to make every frame feel intentional and editorial, perfect for a fitness competition photography vibe, even outside a stage environment.
Fitness First: Documenting the FMG Journey
Allison’s FMG journey isn’t just about the final stage moment; it’s about the day-in, day-out grind. We wanted her images to feel like a visual log of that journey.
In the fitness portions of the session, we focused on:
Poses that highlight strength – flexed arms, back shots, core engagement, dynamic lunges, and firm stances.
Angles that flatter her structure – low angles for power, slightly off-center compositions to keep things interesting.
Micro-expressions – relaxed face in some, more intense focus in others, so she has a range to communicate both “beast mode” and “approachable”.
This is where being a gym & lifestyle fitness photography specialist really matters. You can’t just ask an athlete to “do something” and expect it to look good. You need to know:
What poses actually show their work
How to direct them so they don’t look stiff
When to let them move naturally so the frame feels alive
With Allison, this part was a dream. She listens, adapts, and then adds her own spark. A little laugh between flexes, a smirk after an intense pose, it’s that personality that made the images feel like her, not just “another fit photoshoot in Los Angeles.”

Fashion Mode: Edgy, Playful, and Confident
Once we finalized the strength-based images, we moved into fashion territory. Wardrobe change. Hair tweak. A tiny mental switch from athlete to model.
This is where our fashion photographer's experience in South Florida met the LA studio style. We leaned into:
Structured posing – asymmetrical stances, hands in pockets, sharp turns, and fluid weight shifts
Movement – hair flips, walking shots, jacket swings, seated poses with attitude
Expression – lighter, more playful, subtle smirks, soft smiles, and “don’t mess with me” looks for a bit of drama
The vibe was “a little fun, a little edgy” all the way through. Think:
One look that feels like an editorial spread
One that feels totally Instagram-ready
One that feels like it belongs in a fitness brand campaign
The crossover between glamour & fashion portraits and athletic branding gave Allison content that doesn’t just say “I compete,” it says “I’m a brand.”
If you’re building a model portfolio photoshoot around your fitness career, this is exactly the kind of range that makes you stand out to agencies and brands.

Directing Allison: Laughs, Trust, and Flow
One of the best parts of working with Allison is the ease of the workflow. She’s one of our favorites for a reason; she shows up with a great attitude and doesn’t take herself too seriously, even when the poses get intense.
From behind the camera, directing looked like this:
“Rotate your shoulders a little more toward the light.”
“Chin slightly up, eyes past the lens—own it.”
“Hold that flex—tiny twist from the waist… perfect.”
“Okay, shake it out—now give me the fun version.”
Those little resets between serious athletic poses and playful fashion moments created a rhythm for the day. The laughs weren’t just a nice extra; they helped loosen her up, which translated into more natural, confident images.
That’s a big reason athletes love working with a South Florida branding photographer who understands both visual storytelling and body awareness. You’re not being left to figure it out alone; we’re coaching you every step of the way.

Logistics & DTLA Chaos: The Parking Situation
Let’s talk real life for a second: getting to FD Studios in downtown LA with gear is a mission in itself.
Between downtown traffic, searching for a spot that isn’t three blocks away, and hauling equipment, it’s easy to let the stress creep in before you even start shooting. The key is planning:
Arriving early to buffer for traffic
Packing smart so we’re efficient getting in and out
Keeping the vibe light once we’re inside, so none of that parking chaos follows us onto set
By the time the first test shots popped up on the back of the Sony A1, the parking saga was forgotten. All that mattered was the light, the angles, and Allison absolutely owning the frame.
Why This Session Works So Well for Ongoing Content
For an FMG-focused athlete, this kind of hybrid fitness & fashion session has serious mileage:
Social Media: A mix of intense, strong imagery and playful, personality-driven shots keeps her feed engaging.
FMG & Competition Needs: Professional photos that highlight her physique and presence, not just phone gym selfies.
Brand Partnerships: Apparel, supplements, lifestyle brands—this portfolio gives her assets that feel campaign-ready, not random.
Website / Media Kits: Clean, high-res files with cohesive styling that position her as a professional, not just a hobbyist.
This is where combining athlete branding photos with fashion-forward direction really pays off. It turns one day in the studio into months of usable content.
If you’re an athlete or model who needs images that work hard for your goals, this structure is gold.

Planning Your Own Fitness & Fashion Photoshoot
Whether you’re in LA, South Florida, or anywhere in between, a fitness & fashion session works best when you come prepared with:
A clear purpose – competing with FMG, launching an online coaching brand, building a portfolio, or landing sponsors.
Wardrobe variety – at least 2–4 fitness looks and 2–3 fashion outfits. Think colors, textures, and layers.
Posing ideas – save inspiration poses, but be ready to adapt them to your body and personality.
Openness to direction – we’ve got you on angles, light, and posture; all we need from you is energy and effort.
