Amy Ownby walked into our Miami studio like she owned the frame, part high-fashion runway, part stage-ready WBFF contender. This Summer 2024 studio session was designed to document her transformation from fashion model to bikini and fitness model, giving her the imagery she needs for the WBFF stage, social media, and commercial opportunities across South Florida. We built a sexy, edgy set that married editorial polish with athletic power, the exact fusion Amy represents.

Concept: Fashion x Fitness, a hybrid narrative
We wanted images that read both like a magazine spread and a competition reel. The brief was simple: show Amy as a fashion model who also brings the physique and presence of a fitness pro. That meant styling that moves between couture mood and sports-luxe, and lighting that sells texture, skin, muscle definition, and fabric movement, in a bold, punchy way.
Shoot type: Fashion meets Fitness studio shoot
Location: Miami, FL (studio)
Purpose: Document Amy’s WBFF journey and express her top form
Vibe: Sexy and edgy, editorial with a pulse

Lighting: editorial, punchy, cinematic
In a studio, you control everything, and we treated light like a sculptor’s tool. Using our Profoto and Godox strobes, we layered hard rim lights with soft front fill to create on-camera contrast without losing skin tone. Key setups included:
Beauty-dish on a Profoto for clean, high-contrast face detail.
Narrow-grid backlight to carve the silhouette and highlight muscle separation, perfect for fitness shots showing abs, obliques, and shoulder lines.
A soft fill on a reflector to keep the look glamorous when we lean into fashion.
Occasional fast-sync with a subtle ambient wash to simulate Miami afternoon warmth.
Gear highlight: Sony A1 with 24–70mm and 70–200mm GM lenses, the combination gave crisp, editorial frames and flattering compression for portraits and full-body fitness lines.

Posing & direction: fashion angles, fitness tension
Amy’s background in fashion made her a dream to direct; she instinctively understands lines and camera focus. Our job was to merge that with cueing for muscle engagement, which makes a physique image read strong onstage.
On-set direction we used:
“Long through the spine” for fashion silhouettes; then “tighten the core” to flip the frame into a fitness image.
Quick micro-poses: a three-count transition so she could hold tension for the shot but relax for the next look.
Movement prompts: walk, pivot, and a snap-back pose to create hair and fabric motion that reads cinematic.
For headshots and close-ups, we leaned on small, controlled shifts, chin angles, soft eyebrow play, and the eyes. For the whole body, we dialed in foot placement and weight shifts so every line felt intentional.

BTS moments: warmth, humor, real prep
South Florida humidity meets studio AC. Amy warmed up with elastic resistance bands and short cardio bursts to activate the muscle memory before each outfit. Between sets, we ran quick playback sessions. She wanted to know how poses read for the WBFF judges and for brands. We traded posing hacks: runway posture from her fashion days and stage-ready flexes for the competition.
A few on-set tricks:
Matte powder to reduce shine under hot lights.
Quick hair touch-ups and a textured hairspray to fight humidity frizz.
Music cues to switch vibe fast, a sultry R&B for editorial, high-energy EDM for fitness sequences.

Key moments & highlights
The split session in which Amy transitioned without a complete outfit change, wearing a fashion jacket over a competition-ready bikini, created a dual-purpose image ideal for ads and portfolios.
Tight 70–200 frames that compressed her back and shoulder lines into an editorial-worthy portrait.
Motion series: a controlled jump-and-pivot captured the exact moment fabric and body were synchronized; those frames will translate across her social and stage reels.
This content helps Amy in three significant ways: a model portfolio photoshoot that pushes her editorial credentials, portfolio assets for pageant and WBFF judges, and social content that brands and sponsors can repurpose.

Why professional photography matters for models & competitors
If you’re a model, influencer, or pageant competitor in South Florida, you need images that don’t just look good; they tell your story and open doors. Amateur shots can miss nuance: the exact lighting that defines muscle, the framing that sells a look to casting directors, and the polish clients expect for campaigns.
We shoot with intention: posing that flatters while communicating strength, lighting that separates you from a sea of selfies, and a studio experience that moves fast so you can focus on performance.
